2048 is the game that turned a commute into an obsession. Slide the board, merge equal tiles, and build one big number before the grid fills up. It takes ten seconds to learn and a long time to put down.
The PlayJoy version makes one important change: the opening position and the entire spawn sequence are generated from the daily seed, so every player starts from exactly the same board and sees the same new tiles in the same order. Your result depends on your decisions, not on luck.
The corner strategy
Pick one corner and keep your largest tile there permanently. Never swipe in the direction that would move it out of that corner — if your big tile is bottom-left, you are allowed left and down, and you use up and right only when left or down is impossible.
Build a monotonic snake in the remaining space: the row along the edge should descend in value away from the corner, and each row below should continue the same descending order. A board that keeps its gradient never clogs.
Why you should almost never swipe up
Swiping up pushes tiles away from your anchor corner and scatters the gradient you spent twenty moves building. Most losing boards are lost by a single panicked up-swipe. If up is your only legal move, you have already lost the structure — take it, then rebuild immediately.
How the daily 2048 target works
Each daily run has three levels with increasing targets, so a run lasts three to five minutes in total rather than the twenty minutes a full 2048 board can take. Reaching the target ends the level and banks a clear bonus; running out of moves banks whatever you built.
How 2048 is scored
score = merge points ÷ 2 + clear bonus + time bonus

Frequently asked questions
Is 2048 the same as the original game?
The mechanic — slide, merge equal tiles, reach a target — is a long-standing public puzzle idea. PlayJoy ships its own implementation, board renderer and scoring.
Is the daily board the same for everyone?
Yes. Both the opening tiles and the spawn stream are generated from the date seed.
Can I play unlimited 2048?
Yes, the 2048 game page generates a fresh practice board whenever you want one.
What happens if I run out of moves?
The level ends and your banked merge score is submitted with no clear bonus.
